What is Fashion For Rent?

Fashion for Rent is an Australian destination for high-end designer apparel rentals, focused on sustainable luxury fashion. Its mission is to make luxury fashion accessible to all women by offering a constantly evolving, affordable, and eco-friendly wardrobe. You can easily reserve your chosen designer dress online or in-store before your event and return it by the rental due date. FFR also specializes in renting plus-size evening and occasion wear.

Where are you located?

Fashion for Rent is based in Melbourne. 14 William Street, Balaclava 3183 VIC.

You can book an appointment to try the dresses in our showroom of Balaclava. Fees applied.

How does it work?

To book a dress you have 2 options.

Directly online or In store.

1. browse our extensive collection online:

Check availability of your selected item(s) by clicking on our calendar.

We only have one rental period, 7 days. Please make sure your dispatch date and the return date are falling within weekdays (not weekends).

The followings are the recommended dispatch and return date from Monday - Friday.

  • Event date on Monday this week, Dispatch date on previous Wednesday, Return date on Tuesday this week.
  • Event date on Tuesday this week, Dispatch date on previous Thursday, Return date on Wednesday this week.
  • Event date on Wednesday this week, Dispatch date on previous Friday, Return date on Thursday this week.
  • Event date on Thursday this week, Dispatch date on Tuesday this week, Return date on Monday next week.

*****Please note Express post is highly recommended for Thusday event. If you're not sure you can receive it by Thursday on time, Please DO NOT go ahead with this rental service.*********

  • Event date on Friday / Saturday / Sunday this week, Dispatch date on Tuesday this week, Return date on Monday next week.

If you are located in a regional area or certain states (WA, NT, TAS), we recommend an express shipping as it may get to you sooner. Please make sure the return date is right after the event date.

For Christmas special renting period, The following applies 

1. All booking for Chrismas period have to be done by phone or email. Online booking is not valid from 17th Dec.

2. For all the events happening between Fri 20th Dec -  Wed 1st Jan 

  • The Dispatch date: Tue 17th Dec 2024, Return date: Thu 2nd Jan 2025

3. The rental fees stay the same as normal 7 days period.

Please check our recommended dispatch and return date for Public holidays to all states.

Confirm you have selected the correct style, size and Dispatch date and Return date then select “Book Now”. Follow through to the check-out to finalise your order and place your payment. 

Please double check your delivery address while finalising your order.

2. See, touch and try our designer garments in the showroom:

Book and Showroom appointment and come into our Showroom located in Balaclava and try the garment on in person and book from the store. We are open every day except Sunday.

How can I tell if an item is available for my date?

When attempting to book an item, you will be asked to select a Dispatch Date and Return Date. Clicking this will open up the availability calendar for that item. This shows live availability for the item. If you can select the date, it's available for that date!

What is the condition of the dress when I receive it?

1. Fully embellished garments

They do not need to be pressed or hung on a clothing rack. However, please carefully inspect the condition of the dress upon receiving it to ensure everything is in order. It's highly recommended you take pictures to record the condition.

2.Partially embellished garments

You may hang them up if there are creases from the packaging. You can also steam press non-embellish area. However, Please be careful DO NOT steam press on the embellishment section directly. You can always use a towel to cover the embellishment area before pressing.

3.Non-embellished garments

Some fabrics are naturally more prone to creasing than others. If you receive a dress with some creasing, please hand it in a steamy bathroom as this will naturally remove these. Please do not iron or steam the dress unless you have received permission from us to do so.

Can I remove the swing tag from my garment?

Yes, you can.

I need a dress at the last minute – what are my options?

1.If you need a dress for an event that is within 72 hours, Booking an appointment in the showroom in Balaclava (Victoria) is highly recommended to guarantee you receive the dress on time.

2.If you need a dress for an event that is within 24 hours and the online appointment booking is full, Please call 0415845536 ASAP to discuss more options.

Booking period

How long can I rent a designer dress?

We only have one rental period, 7 days. That includes

  • Dispatch Date: the day we ship the item from Melbourne. (Please note this is not the event date.)
  • Return Date : the day you need to put the item in the post office to return.
  • Event Date : Should always be the day before the Return Date. In this way you allow more time for item to reach you by post. However, Please note the exception for Thursday event. For any event happening on Thursdays, Express post is highly recommended.

Can I book dresses in advance?

Yes, you can. There no time limit. When you place the order and secure the garment, you will be charged full rental price of the garment to ensure your reservation and the item will be send on your selected Dispatch date.

How can I determine the right date to receive my dress in time for the event?

There are 3 important dates for booking your garments correctly.

  • Dispatch Date: the day we ship the item from Melbourne. (Please note this is not the event date.)
  • Return Date : the day you need to put the item in the post office to return.
  • Event Date : Should always be the day before the Return Date. In this way you allow more time for item to reach you by post. However, Please note the exception for Thursday event. For any event happening on Thursdays, Express post is highly recommended.

How the public holiday will effect my booking?

We close on public holidays and Christmas period from

18th of December 2024 - 2nd of January 2025

For Christmas special renting period, The following applies 

1.All booking for Chrismas period have to be done by phone or email. Online booking is not valid from 17th Dec - 1st Jan

2.For all the events happening between Fri 20th Dec -  Wed 1st Jan 

  • The Dispatch date: Tue 17th Dec 2024, Return date: Thu 2nd Jan 2025

3.The rental fees stay the same for 16 days Christmas special period as normal 7 days period.

Please check others recommended dispatch and return date for Public holidays to all states.

Bond

When do I have bond back?

Bond will be refunded within 24 hours after the dress is returned to our showroom and the inspection is completed to show it is in an original condition.

In what circumstance I don't get the bond back?

1. The dress is not returned

2. The dress is lost or damaged in your possession.

3. After inspection of the returned dress, damages or unauthorized alterations or changes are found.

Appointment

Do I have to make an appointment to come in to the showroom?

Yes, you must make an appointment to try the dresses on.

Is the appointment fee refundable?

We offer a 45-minute appointment for a fitting or consultation, with a fee of$100 AUD.

If you choose to proceed with a rental selection, this amount will be credited towards the cost of your choice.

If you do not proceed with any selection on the day of your appointment, the $100 fee is non-refundable.

For example : If your appointment is on Monday but you did not make any decision on Monday.  You decide to go ahead with your selection on Friday instead. In this case, $100 you paid for Monday appointment is non-refundable and cannot be used to offset your final rental payment.

I don't think 30 minutes is enough - Can I book for 45 minutes?

Our time slot is 45 minutes per slot. If you believe you need an addition 30 minutes, let us know when you book your appointment.

Sizing & Fit

Can I try the dresses on?

Yes, You can try the dress on by booking an appointment at our Styling showroom – located in Melbourne. Fees applied. Please check the T&C before booking an appointment.

HOW CAN I BE SURE THAT A GARMENT WILL FIT ME?

We request, before you book a rental,  that you know your measurements and can relate them back to the dress measurements located on the site. Always take into consideration the fabric – different fabric stretches and moves to fit the body.

What if my dress doesn't fit?

Unfortunately, our standard terms can't offer you a refund, credit or replacement when this occurs.

DO YOU PROVIDE A TRY-ON SERVICE FOR POSTAGE ORDERS?

No, we unfortunately doesn't offer try on service for postage orders.

When is the showroom open?

The showroom open only by appointment.

Make an appointment

CAN ALTERATIONS BE MADE ON RENTED GARMENTS?

We ask that you make no alterations to the garments. If we find any changes done to the garments without our written permissions, the bond of the dress will not be refunded.

What if my dress is too long?

If a dress falls below your feet, it is your responsibility to make sure that the dress does not become damaged throughout the hire. Alterations are strictly prohibited, and excessive staining or damage will result in further charges.

Delivery

How long will it take to get my dress delivered?

The estimated express delivery time is 1-2 business days - depending on your location. For regional aera, please allow extra time for the delivery.

Do you deliver to PO Boxes?

No, we do not deliver to PO Boxes or Parcel Lockers.

Do you ship Australia Wide?

Yes, we deliver directly to your door anywhere in Australia to both residential and business addresses - in all major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin – as well as rural areas. 

We ship to all major cities using the Express delivery service.

What if I’d like to get my designer dress today?

1.If you already booked your dress online and selected "Pick up" option, please give our showroom a call on 0415845536 to arrange pick up time on the day. No booking fees applied.

2.If you have not selected your dress online yet, you're welcome to book an appointment to try more dresses on in the showroom before making a decision. Once you make a selection in the showroom, you can pick up the dress on the spot. Appointment fees applied and it will be credited to the final rental price if you go ahead with the selection. Otherwise, it is not refunded.

What happens if I am out when you deliver?

Your package will be left at your nearest Post Office for you to pick up later.

Do I have to sign for my order?

Yes, all parcels require a signature.

Can I track my items?

Yes, After we’ve dispatched your item(s) we’ll send you a confirmation email which will include your tracking number and the estimated delivery date. If you do not have a tracking number, please feel free to contact us to follow up your order.

Is there a fee for the delivery and return shipping?

All garments are send with a fee of $40 which includes the return label and insurance (for transit only).

What happens if my designer dress doesn’t arrive within the specified delivery time?

In the rare case that your dress doesn’t arrive within the specified delivery time, please contact our friendly customer care team who will assist you in best resolving the issue.

Do you provide international shipping?

No, we unfortunately doesn't offer international shipping for the moment.

What address do I return my Item(s) to?

Returning your dress is quick and easy. Simply return in showroom at

14 William Street, 3183 Balaclava, Vic

Alternatively if you would prefer to place it in the post then we can provide you with an Express Post Satchel for an additional $10 for your convenience.

Returning Items

When & how do I send back items I’ve hired?

When you book an item online you will always have a Return date which is between Monday to Friday. This Return date will be the date you post item back to Melbourne.

All rentals booked via Fashion for Rent will come with a prepaid return postage label. All you need to do is place the item in the original box, seal the box securely. Stick prepaid postage label on the box and post it back!

Your order confirmation email and your dispatch notification email will both state a “Return by post on” date. You must post back the item on or before this date, or you might be liable for late fees as per our Rental Agreement.

You should always post the parcel by handing it over the counter at an Australia Post store or depot. This ensures that the item is immediately scanned and is proof that you’ve posted the item back as instructed.

Do I have to clean the dress?

No, we take care of the cleaning for you!

I didn't receive a return postage label. What do I do?

You should always receive a return postage label within your delivered package. If for some reason the label is missing in the box, please let us know ASAP and we will give you instructions. We’ll make sure you aren’t left out of pocket!

I lost my return postage label. What do I do?

Please contact us ASAP before the Return date for a replacement label. You need to print the label out and stick on the Returning box.

What happens if I return my dress later than I was supposed to?

1. If you find yourself in a situation that you will need to return the item late than the Return date, please contact us ASAP by Email.

2. If we received the Email on the Return date or later, It will be consider late return. It incurs $100 a day late return fees which will be deducted from your bond.

3. When the bond is completely used for the late fees incurred and the dress is still not returned, we will start legal action to recover the cost of the item. You will be liable for all the legal fees involved of starting the legal procedure such as Letter of Demond, Lawyers corresponding emails and all the other related legal costs from Fashion For Rent. The late fees of $100 a day will be charged until the settlement is reached.

Damage or Loss

What if the dress is lost or damaged beyond repair?

When the item is lost or damaged beyond repair while it is in your possession (from the time you sign your parcel for receiving the item to the time right before you hand over the parcel to the post office counter staff). As stated in the Fashion For Rent Terms & Conditions, you will be responsible for paying 100% of the RRP value for the lost or damaged item.

Order and cancellation

How many garments can I rent at any one time?

You can place more garments in seperate orders. However, we only allow 1 garment per order. The bond for each garment will need to be paid for each order. We DO NOT combine order or combine bond for transaction purpose. 

What if I need to change or cancel my order?

Hire fees are non-refundable in the event of a booking cancellation.

If you wish to cancel an order, you are required to submit cancellation in writing minimum 14 days in advance before the intended Dispatch date to be eligible for a credit note, minus a $100 cancellation fee. You will not be eligible for a credit note or refund if cancellation is advised in less than 14 days notice period.

A credit note will be issued within 6 months from the date of cancellation. If the items(s) have already been dispatched from Fashion for Rent’s premises, a request for cancellation will not be accepted and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit note.
